Course Features
Impart knowledge and skills useful for operating, with a high degree of qualification, in all sectors directly or indirectly related to the conception, development, production, and control of pharmaceuticals and health products. Train professional figures capable of meeting the complex demands of research, production, and quality control in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industrial sectors, as well as public and private research bodies and analysis laboratories.
The educational pathway is multidisciplinary and structured to build – through the impartation of solid theoretical knowledge in basic disciplines – a suitable substrate for the acquisition, consolidation, and development of qualified theoretical and operational skills in the characteristic disciplines.
Graduates in CTF, due to the nature and scope of the planned educational activities, possess excellent mastery of the scientific method of investigation and a pronounced ability to independently develop, finalize, and apply original ideas or procedures in multidisciplinary research contexts.
Regarding the basic disciplines, the student will acquire physical, mathematical, computer, and statistical skills essential for acquiring and consolidating a solid chemical background and adequate biological culture. The basic disciplines will not only provide specific knowledge but also lay the foundations for acquiring a working method and problem-solving approach that combines knowledge and practical skills, transforming the potential energy of knowledge into useful work for solving pharmaceutical problems.
The core disciplines in chemical and analytical-pharmaceutical (CHIM/08), technological-pharmaceutical (CHIM/09), and pharmacological (BIO/14) fields will give a strong professional identity to the course and enhance the student's skills and vocations. The scientific and professional culture will make it easy for graduates in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology to adapt their professional skills to the rapid technological developments and the ever-changing and new needs of the pharmaceutical industry and public health.
The educational pathway also includes an experimental thesis worth 30 ECTS, in addition to a mandatory professional internship in a pharmacy, also worth 30 ECTS, to be carried out at a public pharmacy or hospital (for a maximum period of 3 months). Through these experiences, the student will gain full awareness of the issues that pave the way from the conception of a pharmacologically active molecule to the identification of a drug, its marketing, and finally, the dispensing of the drug to the patient.
